The Third Annual Writing/Drawing Contest took place on Saturday, April 8, in the Eden Valley Community Center.
Judy Thielen, as Story Hour/Summer Reading Chair, coordinated this event with the participation of the Eden Valley Elementary student body and staff.
The students were invited to present with the following themes:
Kindergarten: A drawing depicting ?ÄúWhat Makes Me Smile??Äù
Gr. 1-2: A drawing including one sentence about ?ÄúWhat Makes Me Smile??Äù
Gr 3-5: A paper considering the following; ?ÄúImagine you were given a FREE WISH, but you had to wish something for someone else.?Äù
All papers were then collected and judged by library volunteers. Judging criteria was to be based on originality, creativity and heart!
One winner from each classroom was chosen. These 19 winners were invited to present their papers at the award ceremony which was attended by the winners and their families and friends.
Each winner was assisted by Marilyn Peterson as they presented their paper.
Library board vice president, Margi Schreifels awarded each winner a certificate.
Mayor Brent Bengston awarded each winner a trophy.
Punch and cookies were served after the ceremony.
We celebrate the effort and participation of all participants by displaying all papers throughout the Library and the Community Center. The papers will remain on display through Wednesday,
April 19.
The goal of this event is to reward students for their effort, encourage them to believe in themselves and to promote the love of reading.
