Following several public hearings, and a final public hearing on March 15, the Eden Valley city council decided (on a 4-1 vote) to not move forward with adopting the state building code. That hearing lasted nearly an hour with at least 11 citizens voicing their opinions on the issue (predominantly opposing state codes in Eden Valley).
At its meeting/workshop March 8, the council set monthly rent for the library lease at $300/month effective May 1, with a goal of at least covering the cost of utilities there.
The council raised SAC and WAC fees to $1,500 each, effective April 1.
At that meeting, the council also approved using $30,000 of park funds toward construction of two multi-use shelters in Friederichs Park, in addition to the Lions’ contribution of $50,000 for the buildings.
They also set rental rate for the Friederichs Park shelter for families of EV-W district students to be the same as for city residents.
At its April 5 meeting, the council approved an off-sale liquor license for Andy’s Hometown Tavern.
Earlier that evening, the council heard from Stearns County and Meeker County on property values, taxes, and sales.
There was discussion about active-shooter drills going on at the school, and how best to secure the city in the event of any type of emergency.
The next regular meeting of the Eden Valley city council will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3. Meetings are recorded, and available for viewing on the city’s YouTube channel.
