At their Aug. 8 regular meeting, the Eden Valley city council approved the hiring of a new clerk/treasurer, and their gain is Kimball’s loss. The new hire is Nicole Pilarski, currently Kimball’s clerk/treasurer. Pilarski will begin Sept. 10. Eden Valley’s current clerk/treasurer, Mona Haag, is retiring soon, but will overlap with Pilarski for a time so she’s trained. They also approved the hire of part-time police officer Peter Moe who was sworn in at the meeting.
The council spent nearly an hour discussing two-year-old water bills with property owner and landlord Douglas Ruhland. Three months of the delinquent bills remained after Ruhland sent a check for all other outstanding bills. The total due was about $4,900; he offered to pay $1,900 and call it done. The council agreed to accept $3,675 today as payment in full; Ruhland countered with $2,500 which the council rejected. The full amount was certified to his property taxes.
The next regular meeting of the Eden Valley city council will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12. Meetings are recorded and aired on Arvig public access on Thursdays.
