Edmund J. Meyer of Watkins died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. He was 84. Mass of Christian Burial took place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City. Interment followed in the parish cemetery with Rev. Patrick Casey officiating. Edmund J. Meyer was born in Richmond on Dec. 5, 1918, to Henry and Magdalena (Kraemer) Meyer. He married Fern Arnes April 23, 1946, at St. Philip Catholic Church in Litchfield. They farmed in Forest Prairie Township, until Edmund’s retirement in 1992. Fern passed away in 1989. Edmund served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City, and was a member of the Catholic Aid Association. Edmund was also a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens, Legion Post #453 for more than 50 years, the Wat-Kim-Valley V.F.W., the Last Man Club, and was a former board member of the Forest City Creamery. Edmund was preceded in death by his parents; wife Fern; brothers Wilfred (and Mary) Meyer, Linus Meyer, Marcellus Meyer and Verner Meyer; sisters Rufina Olson, Erma Linda Meyer; and brother-in-law Pat Scanlon. He is survived by his children Diane (and Les) Young of Litchfield, Renee (and Gerald) Brutger of Kimball, Arlis (and Gary) Klein of Watkins, Marlene (and Dennis) Landwehr of Watkins; Adrian (and Suzanne) Meyer of Watkins and Edmund Jr. (and Christy) Meyer of Grove City; 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one step-great-grandchild; brothers and sisters Colleta (and Roman) Meyer of Eden Valley, Alice Backes of St. Cloud, Bernice Hoefer of Crystal, Cathlene Scanlon of Loretto, Donald (and Barb) Meyer of St. Cloud; brother- and sisters-in-law Einer Olson of St. Cloud, Kathlene Meyer of Cold Spring, and Stana Meyer of St. Cloud; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Casket bearers were grandchildren Kevin Young, Jeremy Brutger, Michael Landwehr, Jason Klein, Kimberly McMahon, Cheryl Bradshaw, Jeffrey Brutger and Matthew Meyer. Arrangements were by Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
