Emergency Drill scheduled for Wed., Apriil 17

·

The City of Kimball will hold an emergency drill on Wednesday, April 17, 2002, beginning at 6 p.m. All people involved in this exercise will be given early notice of the upcoming drill.

What type of disaster will the city be conducting? On the evening of Wednesday, April 17, at 6 p.m., the city will sound the emergency siren for a tornado drill to make sure it is working properly. The Kimball Fire/Rescue Squad, Police Department, and other city personnel will conduct a simulated drill of an ammonia leak from a train derailment with eight injuries at 6:30 p.m. City emergency personnel will go through the procedures of what actions they would have to take in the event of a real train derailment. At 7:40 p.m., Kimball Elementary School will participate in the scenario by having 30 children bussed to a “safe zone” in the city. The “safe zone” on April 17, will be the Kimball Area Fire Hall.

What will the City of Kimball try to accomplish from this drill? The accomplishment will be coordination effort and assessment of the situation with the city employees.

Why will we have this drill? To better prepare all personnel involved, should we have a real emergency.

On April 17, when you hear the siren blow at 6 p.m., it will be a part of the drill. In the event of a real weather emergency, please listen to your radio station. In such an event, Kimball Area Fire and Rescue will drive around town with their sirens on, warning citizens that this is a real emergency and not part of the drill.
