Eugene ‘Gene’ Boggs, 81

Gene Boggs of Kimball died Tuesday, Oct,. 20, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 81.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Fairhaven Christian Church in Fair Haven with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Eugene ‘Gene’ B. Boggs was born June 1, 1928, to Bernard and Emma (Mansicka) Boggs at his home in Kimball. He graduated from Kimball High School, class of 1946. For more than 20 years, Gene and his family owned and operated Ella’s Café on Main Street in Kimball. He then worked as a refrigeration and appliance repair technician until his retirement.

Gene served his country in the U.S. Army. June 2, 1947, he married Helen Tufts in Webster, S.D. Helen died March 3, 1993. Gene married Julianne Marie Hansen Aug. 6, 1996, in Milbank, S.D.

Gene was active in the Fairhaven Christian Church. He was a sports enthusiast and outdoorsman. He enjoyed his walks in the woods, feeding the deer and turkeys. He was a gifted artist, enjoying painting, sketching and woodworking. Gene loved to share his love for Jesus and spending time reading the Bible. His greatest enjoyment in life was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Emma, his first wife Helen, and brothers Richard and Donald.

Gene is survived by his wife Julianne of Kimball; children Patti (and Brian) Johnson of Monticello, Debbie (and Mickey) Brower of Corcoran, Jill (and Danny) Peña of Victoria, Texas, Dan of Buyck, Minn., Rich (and Bobbi) Lassen, Jr. of Spring Lake Park, and Tracey (and Terry) Harmon of Nowthen, Minn.; 24 grandchldren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Gloria (and Bruce) Dalbec of Crosslake, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

His granddaughter Kelly and her husband David Gassler will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
