Saturday’s result was not as favorable for EV-W, as the host St. Peter Saints swiped the waning-seconds victory and the championship on a three-point prayer by Saint’s sophomore point guard Ethan Grant. The Eagles had just six seconds to put up a final shot, but the effort was fruitless, and St. Peter slipped out with the 61-60 win. It was a close game in its entirety, with the Saints owning the biggest lead of 48-43 in the second half. The 3-minute mark revealed St. Peter leading, 56-53; but a couple of converted free throws and a Kobe Beattie trey with 2:15 on the clock, put the Eagles in front, 58-56. After
St. Peter tied it up at 58, EV-W’s Adam Stommes drilled a 2-point bucket to give the Eagles a 60-58 advantage with 55 ticks remaining. St. Peter ran the time down for the last shot and the rest is now history. The Eagles’ Joshua Streit scored 16 points and teammate Luke Jansen finished with 19.
