EV-W/K battle at Litchfield Invitational

The EV-W/K girl’s and boys’ track and field teams hit the road for the Litchfield Invitational on April 10, an event featuring eight teams on both sides.
The girls’ team finished third with a score of 116.5, one-point behind second-place Annandale; Minnewaska Area won the event with 143.5 points. As for the boys’ team, it finished seventh with 68.5 points. Here are individual highlights from both teams.
Girls highlights
Jordyn Theis earned runner-up honors in the 44-competitor, 100-meter dash, running a time of 13.20 – .21 seconds behind the top runner.
Jocelyn Zoller earned a pair of top-three finishes. She finished as a runner-up in the 21-competitor 100 meter hurdles, running a time of 16.22 – .22 seconds behind the top runner. In the 300-meter hurdles, she posted a time of 49.02 to finish third in the 19-competitor event.
Ellie Becker finished fifth in the 200-meter run, running a time of 28.21 in the 29-competitor event.
EV-W/K had three runners finish in the top eight in the 400-meter run. Hope Kuechle led the way, winning the 20-competitor event with a time of 1:01.33. Teammates Ava Holmgren finished fourth (1:01.86) and Miley Kuechle eighth (1:09.44).
Alayna Haag earned runner-up honors in the 22-competitor 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:35.70 – 3.06 seconds behind the top finisher.
Kynlee Bischof led EV-W/K in the 1600-meter run, earning a time of 6:17.12 to finish ninth in the 23-competitor event.
Brooklyn Molitor earned a time of 15:15.27 in the 3200-meter run.
In relay action, the 4×400–meter relay team led the way with a top finish, winning with a time of 4.19.99 – 2.99 seconds ahead of the second-place team. Alayna Haag, Cambel Hesse, Jocelyn Zoller, and Hope Kuechle made up this relay team.
As for the other relays, the 4×100-meter relay team of Rhi Hilsgen, Nora Huschle, Grace Brovold, and Jordyn Theis finished fourth with a time of 55.07 – .94 seconds behind the top team. The 4×200-meter relay team of Jordyn Theis, Cambel Hesse, Ellie Becker, and Hope Kuechle earned third with a time of 1:51.52 – 1.22 seconds behind the top team. The 4×800-meter relay team of Kynlee Bischof, Holly Truenow, Brooklyn Molitor, and Alayna Haag finished third with a time of 11:13.91.
In the field events, Ellie Becker paced EV-W/K by winning the 24-competitor high jump with a jump height of 5-02.00. Miley Kuechle finished second in the 31-competitor long jump with a distance of 15-05.50. Jordyn Theis also finished second in her event, the 24-competitor shot put, posting a throw of 30-05.25.
Ellie Becker earned third in the 17-competitor pole vault with a height of 9-06.00. Hope Kuechle earned sixth in the 23-competitor triple jump, posting a distance of 28-06.50. Ella Myers led EV-W/K in the discus throw with a toss of 71-03, placing her fourteenth in the 25-competitor event.
Boys highlights
Henry Lemke paced the EV-W/K team by winning the 21-competitor 1600-meter run, posting a time of 4:46.80 – 18.32 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
The EV-W/K team earned a pair of runner-up relay finishes, including the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter teams. The 4×100-meter relay team of Brody Lyrek, Kole Knaus, Brody Hooper, and Nolan Mertens finished with a time of 47.31 – 1.18 seconds behind the top team. The 4×400-meter relay team of Tyler Charboneau, Nolan Mertens, Kole Knaus, and William Ballard posted a time of 3:48.11 – 3.63 seconds behind the top team.
The 4×800-meter team of Tyler Charboneau, Gavin Arens, Braiden Magedanz, and Henry Lemke finished third with a time of 9:28.84. Speaking of third, William Ballard earned that place in the 17-competitor 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.38.
Owen Mortenson finished sixth in the 43-competitor 100-meter dash, earning a time of 11.97 – .63 seconds behind the top finisher. Tyler Charboneau also secured a sixth-place finish with his run of 56.88 in the 25-competitor 400-meter run.
Brody Hooper led EV-W/K in the 200-meter run, finishing seventh in the 30-competitor event with a time 24.27 – .76 seconds behind the top finisher. Teammate Owen Mortenson finished ninth in this event with a time of 24.45.
Gavin Arens earned a -seventh-
place finish in the 13-competitor 3200-meter run, posting a time of 11:56.24. Mason Lesnau led EV-W/K in the 18-competitor 800-meter run, finishing ninth with a time of 2:34.46.
In the field events, two long jumpers led EV-W/K by each placing in the top four of the 28-competitor event. William Ballard finished as the runner-up with a distance of 18-09.50 and teammate Jed Spaulding placed fourth with a distance of 18-08.50.
Owen Mortenson paced EV-W/K in the high jump and triple jump. In the high jump, Mortenson posted a height of 5-04.00, tying him for seventh. In this same event, teammate William Ballard also finished with a height of 5-04.00 to earn ninth in the 22-competitor event. In the triple jump, Mortenson posted a distance of 37-02.75 to finish fifth in the 19-competitor event.
Jed Spaulding earned a seventh-place finish in the shot put, posting a throw of 36-01.50. Zach Kourima led EV-W/K in the discus throw with a toss of 95-05, finishing ninth in the 28-competitor event.
