On April 26, the windy and cold weather was not enough to keep the EV-W-K girls team from taking first place at the Maple Lake Invitational, and with only a 5-point spread between 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, the boys team came in a very respectable fourth place. Along with strong finishes from the teams, we also had some individual trophies to bring home. Both Nathan Schoenecker and Jennifer Becker came home with the hard-earned male and female “MVP of the Meet” awards. The teams then traveled to Paynesville on Thursday, April 28. The weather once again was challenging the team with its wind and cold. The girls came home with a 3rd place finish and the boys brought a 6th place finish back with them. Along with these finishes, the team walked away with their heads held high by bringing home 18 personal best times and distances. Jennifer Becker broke her own triple jump record with a leap of 34’7.25″. To round off an already busy week, they then traveled to Arlington for the Sibley East Vrklan Relay meet. Jennifer Becker decided to best her triple jump record once again with an impressive jump of 35’6″. This meet does not keep team points, so this was a fun meet for the kids to participate in. They even got to watch and cheer on the coaches as they participated in their own “mystery event.” This year the team celebrated with coaches Jeff Voss and Reneen Babbitt as they brought home the male and female trophies from this year’s competition. The teams continue to work hard and strive to make their communities proud of their accomplishments. With only three regular season meets left before the CMC meet, they will work hard to run, jump and throw their way to victory.
