By Patrick ArnoldFrom sunny and 90 degrees to snow and temps in the 30s in a matter of days. The Express long-awaited opening day was cancelled, as was the case for all amateur baseball teams in the state this past Sunday because of the three to six inches of white crap that accumulated throughout the morning and late afternoon.
What do the baseball gods have against baseball in the month of April? Last year the Express went through the same frustration of rain and cold before they could get the season going. Hopefully this coming weekend brings better weather and the Express can get the season started.
The game with the Cold Spring Rockies has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 1, in Kimball at 2 p.m.
Upcoming games this weekend see the Litchfield Blues coming to Kimball on Saturday; a 1 p.m. first pitch is slated. This will be the first time the Blues have played in Kimball since they left the Central Valley League back in the early 1990s. The Blues pose a daunting offensive lineup, and are pump-ed up to be playing in the small dimensions of the Kimball ball park.
On Sunday the Express slide in to Central Valley League action, traveling to Eden Valley to face the Hawks. First pitch will be at 2 p.m. The Hawks and skipper Birdie Geislinger are looking to open the season with a big win. The Express and Hawks have had some great battles over the year and this year doesn’t look to be any different. Eden Valley has a beautiful ball park. Make the short trip over to the Valley, and cheer on the Express as they look for their first CVL victory of the season.
