Seventeen boys and girls in grades 3-6 attended the first ever Express Railyard Rookie Camp at Kimball Veterans Memorial Field Saturday, June 5. Express players taught the basic fundamentals of baseball to the youngsters, and played some fun games along the way. Everyone who attended the camp received an official camp T-shirt, two tickets to a St. Cloud Riverbats game and a free pop after the camp. Participants competed in four different fun contests with winners taking home a maple bat furnished by the Express. Winners in the day’s contests were as follows. o Longest throw: Alex Mies; o Throwing accuracy (third- and fourth-graders): Erin Dingman; o Throwing accuracy (fifth- and sixth-graders): Tyler Filzen; o Dizzy bat: Kelsey Vigoren; o Bunting accuracy: Matthew Massman. Camp participants got to throw out the first pitch at Sunday’s game against the Pearl Lake Lakers. The Express players had a blast with the children and are looking forward to the camp again next year. A big “thank you” to all the children who attended the camp.
