As winners of the Region 11C tournament two weeks ago, the Kimball Express had a bye for the first weekend of play at this year’s state tournament.

Their first game will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, against Belle Plaine (who knocked Crookston out of the tourney this past weekend, 12-2).

The Express emerged from last year’s grueling tournament as the 2018 State Champions, defeating Lake Henry in the final game on Labor Day when Scott Marquardt hit a walk-off home run, ending the game at 6-4.

The Express had a homecoming parade that next Sunday, Sept. 10, with a program at the Kimball ball park. They also got to play Lake Henry in Target Stadium May 26, in the new uniforms that came with their state win.

The team is mostly the same this year, including manager Tom Marquardt and his three sons Brooks, Brian and Scott.

The Express-Belle Plaine game is in New Prague at the Memorial Park Baseball Stadium.
