Express shut out Lakers

The Kimball Express hosted the Pearl Lake Lakers Saturday, June 3, and the Express soundly defeated the Lakers, 10-0, in a shut-out game.

Cade Marquardt led the Express at the plate, hitting a home run in the fourth inning, plus a trio of singles, for 2 RBI. Matt Friesen hit a double and a pair of singles with 3 RBI; Zak Wallner hit a double with 1 RBI. Scott Marquardt hit a pair of singles with 1 RBI; Adam Beyer had 1 RBI as did Matt Dingmann and Jaxon Marquardt; and Brian Marquardt and Zach Dingmann each hit a single.

Zak Wallner earned the win for the Express, pitching six of the seven innings played. He allowed the two Lakers’ hits but kept them scoreless; Wallner struck out 9 while walking 1. Skylor Gruba threw one inning in relief.

Nolan Notch is tagged with the loss. He allowed 8 runs on 7 hits; he walked 6 and struck out 1. Justin Kunkel, Nick Schmidt, and Adam Brown also pitched out of the dugout.

In 22 at-bats, the Lakers’ two hits on the game were both singles, by Kole Klaphake and Adam Brown.

Next up, the Express travel to the Litchfield Blues Friday, June 9, for an exhibition game; game time is 7 p.m. On Saturday, June 10, they host a make-up game against St. Nicholas; game time is 1 p.m. They will travel Sunday, June 11, to the Eden Valley Hawks with a 2 p.m. game time.
