It was a cool-ish spring day and that may have had something to do with the cool start of the game Sunday, April 23, at Kimball. Clearly the Express warmed up more quickly than the Brewers.
The Express?Äô five runs were all scored in the third inning. Austin Ruehle started off the scoring on a single by Scott Marquardt. Other runs in the third inning were by the next four in the lineup after Ruehle: Scott Marquardt, Adam Beyer, Ben Johnson, and Brian Marquardt. Brooks Marquardt was out sliding into home for an attempted sixth run. Troy Filzen and Kyle Winter hit singles to end the third inning.
Austin Ruehle led the Express with two hits, both singles, and one run. RBI were hit by Ben Johnson, Brian Marquardt, and Brooks Marquardt with two.
Luxemburg came up short with a run in the eighth, and two more in the ninth. For the Brewers, Colton Fruth hit a single and a double, and scored one run in six at-bats. Casey Underwood hit two singles and scored one run. And Ethyn Fruth hit a single and scored one run. Nick Baker had one RBI, and Derrik Orth hit a double.
Zach Dingmann pitched the first four innings, but Matt Dingmann earned the win, striking out four. Andy Dingmann pitched two innings for the save, allowing six hits and three runs.
Austin Klaverkamp took the loss for Luxemburg, pitching two and two-thirds innings; he allowed all five runs with two strike-outs. Nick Baker pitched four and a third innings, and Casey Underwood pitched one.
