Fairest of Fair Haven: New queen named in Old Settlers’ Days celebration

·

After much anticipation, last year’s Old Settler queen Courtney Wills crowned Crystal Dorman as the newest Fair Haven royalty. Dorman was shocked to win the title. “It was very unexpected to win. At first, I didn’t know if I had a chance,” said Dorman. “I think that the decision was a really close call. Everyone seemed to be very close.” The judges may have had a hard time picking the new royalty, but they obviously saw something special in Dorman. For her on stage question, Dorman was asked if she won the title, how would she make the town better?   Dorman eloquently answered that she would try to get people more involved with each other. To make the Old Settlers’ Day Celebration better, Dorman said she would like to have fundraisers to provide activities for teenagers.   “There are games for young kids, and activities for adults, but it seems like teens don’t have much to do since they are getting old for the games.” Dorman is ready to put her words into action. She has already started to think about fundraisers and activities.   Dorman discussed organizing a car wash and selling buttons.   For activities, she would like to have a water balloon fight or a talent show at next year’s celebration. As the new queen, Dorman will represent Fair Haven in area parades and events, along with the new princess, Teresa Erickson and Miss Congeniality Chelsey Wipper. Dorman is excited for the year ahead and happy to be a representative of her hometown. “I am really looking forward to getting to know the other two girls better and I think that it will be fun to represent my hometown.” She said that she looks forward to going to other town events and parades. “Fair Haven will be well-known when we go to the parades. Right now, I think most people have never heard of it. I think that it should be a place that everyone wants to visit.” Dorman is the daughter of Peggi Gohman and Kevin Dorman. She was sponsored by Truck Mate for the competition.   She graduated from KAHS this spring and plans to attend Scott Lewis college in Plymouth this fall to study cosmetology.
