Fairgoers Experience agricultural education at Meeker County Fair

·

Nearly 15,000 people visit the Meeker County Fair during a four-day period and will have a new addition to the fairgrounds to explore. The Animals Inc. building is the new home for the FFA barnyard, Meeker County Corn Growers, FFA Exhibit Hall, fair offices, bathrooms, and provides overflow options for 4-H and open class livestock.

“The new and improved FFA barnyard and exhibit hall will provide increased opportunities for our youth to continue to tell the story of agriculture and showcase their learning, we are grateful for the generous sponsors of the new space especially Animals Inc. and the Meeker County Corn Growers” shares Arne Gruenes, Meeker County Fairboard member. Laura Shoutz, Litchfield FFA member adds, “The new building is a long overdue addition to our fairgrounds. I think the new facility will give FFA members a chance to better exhibit their projects as well as expanding public relations and promotions. I’m excited to be able to be part of the first group to use the new barn!”

The Meeker County Fair is an opportunity for students studying agricultural education to apply the skills they have learned in class and through their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs. FFA members are able to do this through the FFA barnyard exhibits, by showing livestock, creating agricultural mechanics projects and displaying crop samples.

Traditionally an agriculture event, county fairgoers also come to be entertained, show off various skills, learn about new products and enjoy different types of food.
