DNR firearms classroom training and field day sponsored by the EV Sportsmen and Meeker Pheasants Forever has been postponed for this year. The training team plans to reschedule the classroom sessions and field testing for the spring.
The MN DNR has modified firearms safety certification requirements on an interim basis as a result of COVID-19. Students of all ages may take their classroom training online. Students 14 and older may also complete a virtual field day instead of the traditional in-person field day by signing up for and completing the online hunter safety course.
Students ages 12-14 who want to hunt this fall and have taken the online course, but are unable to complete their in-person field day, are encouraged to use the Apprentice Hunter Validation. This validation enables an individual who is normally required to have a Firearms Safety Certificate (12+) to hunt for a year under the supervision of a licensed adult hunter. The Apprentice Validation is good for one license year, March-February, costs $3.50, use code 199.
Visit the MN DNR website at dnr.state.mn.us for more information. Select Education/Safety from the pull-down menu and click on Hunter Education and Safety Class. You will find the online course and online course with virtual field day (14+).
