The State?Äôs $1.65 Billion Surplus

Minnesota received good news in late February as the Financial Forecast showed a surplus of
$1.65 billion. That?Äôs an increase from the December projection of $1.4 billion. Earlier in the year, Governor Dayton proposed a $600 million target to expand public education programs. As the legislative session moves forward, I?Äôll patiently wait for compromise and successful outcomes to address the inequity in funding public schools, the negative impact of inflation on the pupil formula, and the passage of a tax bill that includes the Ag2School tax credit. If you recall, the Ag2School tax credit reduces the tax on all agricultural lands and buildings equal to 40 percent of the tax on the property attributable to all school districts?Äô capital bond levies.

AmeriCorps/ReadingCorps

We are excited to share an opportunity to recognize the important contributions of AmeriCorps in our school district. Our goal is to highlight and celebrate the positive impact of AmeriCorps and to recognize the contributions and commitment of those involved in AmeriCorps. I?Äôve listed below some very important EV-W individuals that make a difference each and every day in the lives of our students. Please thank our EV-W Minnesota Reading Corps of:

?Ä¢ Nicole Eckblad, Reading Corps member at Eden Valley Elementary

?Ä¢ Samantha Russell, Reading Corps member at Eden Valley Elementary

?Ä¢ Sharon Borgert, Internal Coach and Supervisor

Senior Spotlight

The EV-W School District would like to recognize Madeleine Geislinger, daughter of Kathy and Todd. Madeleine is described as an actively engaged student leader. She?Äôs a successful three-sport athlete who demonstrates a strong work ethic in volleyball, basketball and track. Madeleine is also an honor student and well respected member of NHS. Somehow, she manages to find time in her busy schedule to fulfill leadership roles as the Eagles?Äô Cry editor, and contributing member to Aquila and Investment Club. The EV-W administration and staff are extremely proud of Madeleine and her many accomplishments. Congratulations!
