Friday Update May 5, 2017

As mentioned in previous updates, the House and Senate majority announced they have agreed to joint funding targets for the major areas of state budgeting. The E12 budget target is now $303.5 million or 1.5 percent on the formula allowance, and soon the House and Senate will need to reach agreement on allocating their E12 budget bill. However, the governor still needs to weigh in and negotiate the final budget bills, which will happen over the next few weeks.

While the joint agreement on E12 funding has slightly changed, we?Äôre still concerned as it sits below the needed 2 percent to offset the rate of inflation. Please reach out to your area representatives and encourage them to take action on an increased spending target for education and the pupil funding formula. It won?Äôt be long before we?Äôre out of days to influence the outcome of this legislative session. Thanks for your advocacy; your voices are extremely important!
