Fundraising keeps libraries open

·

Great River Regional Library has announced that all 32 of its member libraries across central Minnesota will have normal open hours after this year’s Thanksgiving holiday. Because of budget woes, those same libraries were closed for an additional two days after Christmas last year, and were scheduled to be closed the Friday and Saturday following the Thanksgiving holiday. The library system began a fundraising effort earlier this year with the goal of raising enough money to remain open after Thanksgiving. Through the donations of library users and through other savings, that goal was attained. Most of the fundraising was done at the local level, with money jar donations and small checks. “We want to thank everybody who demonstrated their support of library services with a donation of any kind,” said GRRL director Bescye P. Burnett.
