Garden grows with community pride
Many community members have joined together to plant the garden at Kimball Elementary School. The garden was planted in two phases. The first planting was done the day before school was out. Sixth-grade teacher Paulette Hauge and Multi-age teacher Deb Schmidt completed the first planting before the sixth-grade graduation Friday, May 30. Some of the plants were purchased and others were donated by Marsha Anklam and David MacGregor from Fairhaven Farm. The second phase of the garden was planted during the third week of June. Many plants were donated from a nursery in South Saint Paul through the Beautify Minnesota project. Our contact for this wonderful opportunity was the Kimball Garden Club (Bloomin’ Garden Friends). An initial planting was paid for by the Kimball Lions. The garden club contact was Brenda Arnold. Mike and Deb Schmidt drove to South St. Paul and filled every space in the school van with plants. The second planting was done by Latch Key, Mary and Theresa Mathies, Kris O’Brien, Sue Maus and Deb Schmidt. Submitted by
