Gerald Almgren, 69
Gerald “Jerry” Almgren of Kimball, formerly of Fosston, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at his home. He was 69.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball with Rev. Dave Milz officiating. Burial followed in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends called from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball, and one hour prior to services at the church. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Gerald Dale Almgren was born Aug. 9, 1934, in Litchfield to Lars and Hedvig (Jackson) Almgren. He married Mona Mackereth on Jan. 22, 1955, in Kimball. He farmed near Kimball and then from 1981-2002 he was a rancher in the Fosston area. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston where he was a former deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, breeding and raising horses, and his life as a cowboy.
Jerry was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Carl Almgren, Vera Swanson, Fred Almgren, Lucille Jurgens, Walter Almgren, Dorothy McDonald, Robert Almgren and Joan Ohlin.
He is survived by his wife Mona of Kimball; children: Gerri Lynn (and Ron) McWherter of Dassel, Mark Almgren of Watkins, Chad (and Cindy) Almgren of Kimball; four grandchildren: Dillon McWherter and Jerry, Jessica and Josh Almgren; sisters: Carol Roberts of Topeka, Kan.; Mary Ann Nesseth of Livonia, Mich.; Betty Lou (and Dick) Peterson of Albuquerque, N.M.
Pallbearers were Lyndon Van Vleet, Tony Maruska, Steve Watne, Bill Wilson, Doug Fjerstad and Ellsworth Danielson. Honorary pallbearers were all of Jerry’s family and friends. Music was provided by organist Lynn Hoff and soloist Ryan Rice.
