Gertrude M. Meyer of Watkins died on March 13, 2003, at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. She was 92. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins followed by interment in the St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery in St. Nicholas. Rev. John Brunner officiated. Gertrude was born in St. Nicholas to John and Anna (Goike) Theis. She married Isidore Meyer on April 28, 1936, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. They farmed in Luxemburg Township for many years. Gertrude worked as a waitress and cook at Jerry’s Supper Club in Richmond for 23 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She was active in the Council of Catholic Women and had served as its president. She was also a member of the St. Cloud Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabelle, and Koinonia Center of central Minnesota. Gertrude also volunteered her time at the St. Benedict Center and the Whitney Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and playing cards. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Isidore in 1988; children Kenneth (twin of Kathleen) and Caroline (twin of Carol Ann); brother Al Theis and sister Francis Moellor. She is survived by her children Rose Mary (and Elmer) Hechtel of Watkins, Ruth (and Gerald) Geislinger of Watkins, Donald (and Delphine) Meyer of St. Cloud, Kathleen (and Elmer) Geislinger of Watkins, Carol Ann (and Johnny) Schwartz of St. Cloud; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Regina Meyer of Cold Spring. Casket bearers were Wanda Zenner, Todd Schwartz, Kay Nistler, Vernon Hechtel, Eric Geislinger, Keith Geislinger, Gloria Tritz and Ervin Hechtel. Arrangements were by Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
