‘Get carded @ your library’ this fall

·

What is the one item that offers access to nearly everything in print and on the Web? What ensures personal assistance? The answer is a library card. Great River Regional Library (GRRL) encourages everyone to “get carded @ your library” and enjoy all of the important things to which a library card gives access. Libraries are the one community institution committed to providing equal access to everyone, said American Library Association president Carla Hayden. “And librarians are the ultimate search engine, helping you and your family find what you need for your health, jobs and other needs.” Celebrated throughout September, National Library Card Sign-up month encourages people to check out what’s new at their libraries by signing up for a library card. Libraries offer more than just books – they have videos, CDs, computers, Internet access and more. Librarians are available to help recommend materials suitable for various ages and interests. They also teach critical information literary skills – the skills to find, use and evaluate information in all formats. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
