Girls’ basketball Holiday Tournament

·

Dec. 27, 2007 The Kimball Girls Basketball Program played in the Ogilvie Holiday Tournament over Christmas break. The Varsity, JV and C squad all played two games each and played very well. On the first night Kimball played the host team, Ogilvie. The Cubs started out on a 8-0 run, but Ogilvie’s outside shooting soon brought the game close. Kimball trailed at half 23-20. The second half was a back and forth game, with either team not being able to pull away from the other. Kimball soon was in foul trouble, which sent the lions to the Free Throw line and Ogilvie opened up a 5 point lead late. The Cubs battled back and a questionable charging foul on the Cubs that would have tied the game gave momentum to the Lions and they were able to hit 7-8 under 1 minute left from the free throw line to seal the win. Kimball was lead in scoring by Brittnay Simmons 12, Mindy Hurlle 4, Kayla Kastanek 9pts and 8rebs, Holly Garding 4, Amanda Kuseske 5 and Emily Straley 6 points. Dec. 28, 2007 Kimball traveled back to Ogilvie the next night to take on another Great River Conference team in Pine City. The Cubs on a buzzer beating layup by Kayla Kastanek went into halftime with a 2-point lead, 20-18. Kimball came out in the second half building the lead to six, but Pine City’s press soon made the Cubs turn the ball over and the Dragons were able to pull back in and tie the game with three minutes left to go. Kimball trailing by two with one minute left put Pine City to the line, Kimball was able to get the rebound and race down the court, but a missed it’s layup which sent the ball the other way and Pine City was able to capitalize on a lay up of their own to give them the win. Kimball was lead in scoring by Mindy Hurrle 12 points, Emily Straley 11 points and 9 rebounds, Brittnay Simmons 3, Kayla Kastanek 7 points and 10 rebounds, Brianna Rosenow 2 points and 10 rebounds, Amanda Kuseske 7 points and Tesslynn Callender 1 point.  Kimball Cubs Girls Basketball Record: 0-2 conference, 3-6 overall. Kimball next plays host to BBE Jan. 4. Kastanek on All Tournament Team Kimball Cubs senior forward, Kayla Kastanek, was chosen by the coaches in the Ogilvie Holiday Tournament as an All Tournament Player.
