Feb. 20, 2007 Holdingford 89 – Kimball 43 Holdingford brought in muscle and size to Kimball on Tuesday night. They are a very intimadating group of girls. They throw the ball down low and let the post players bang around. Our girls gave everything they had and played tough. Kimball started slow and Holdingford really just wore us down. We were missing one of our stronger players down low due to flu and that hurt us. Kimball is a speed team and just couldn’t get it going against the Huskers. We played physical, but ran into a much more physical team. At half time Jay Klein and some Kimball boys’ basketball players led the Junior Cubs program in a ball handeling and skills demonstration. They did a great job and brought in a lot of future Cubs players to watch the last home game of the year. Kimball was led in scoring by Brittnay Simmons and Felicia Menson, who each had 10 points. Mindy Hurrle and Mara Rippentrop both had seven points. Amanda Kuseske had four points, and Katie Mackereth had three points. Brianna Rosenow rounded out the scoring with two points. Feb. 23, 2007 Kimball 47 – Maple Lake 80 Kimball girls’ basketball team traveled to Maple Lake on Friday night. Kimball came out on a 8-0 run to start the game, but Maple Lakes outside game soon led to them coming back. They hit some big baskets at key points in the game. We would make a run and cut the lead to 8 or 10 points and then they would hit a basket and moment would shift. This is the way the game went all night. The girls played very well, it was our best overall game of the year and, hopefully, we can keep it up going into playoffs. Kimball was led in scoring by Felicia Menson and Brittnay Simmons who each had 14 points. Brianna Rosenow added nine points. Mara Rippentrop had six points and to round out the scoring Krystal Mackereth and Mindy Hurrle each added a basket. Rebounding was led by Felicia Mensons seven rebounds, Brianna Rosenow and Mara Rippentrop each had five rebounds. Kimball finished the season with a record of 3-20, but we played better then our record indicates. There are a lot of tough teams in the Central Minnesota Conference and we are rebuilding. Everyone on the team has improved greatly and I am excited about the years to come. Kimball travels to Eden Vally Watkins on Thursday, March 1, for first round of playoffs.
