Aimed at driving Cold Spring resident Amy Schmucker to a spot on the Ladies’ Pro Golf Association’s (LPGA) 2008 tour, Gluek Brewing Company announces its three-year sponsorship of the amateur golf champion. “Amy has a chance to make it and we want to help her get there,” says DiAnn South, spokesperson for Gluek Brewing Company. “It’s very exciting; a great opportunity.” Schmucker says she also feels enthused about the sponsorship arrangement with the 150-year-old company with ties to her family. “Gluek is close to my heart because my grandmother’s family helped start it,” she explains. “Now being sponsored by the current owners is especially meaningful.” While the sponsorship’s terms are confidential, the company will support Schmucker during the next three years as she vies to enter the professional golf arena. “We hope to provide her with a way to concentrate on her golf.” Schmucker says the agreement will allow her that and more. “Gluek has been so great to me – making sure I have everything I need,” she says. “They are helping me get to my dream; the sponsorship is key to my ultimate goals.” Schmucker, now in Florida, is beginning the Duramed Futures Tour that may – based on her performance – lead to her LPGA dream. “It’s been on my mind since I was a little girl,” Schmucker says. “I remember playing golf with my dad when I was 12 and saying, ‘Do you think I’ll ever be good enough to play on the LPGA?’ So getting there means a lot to me.” Schmucker completes the Duramed Futures Tour in September and learns her LPGA standing in November. Schmucker holds numerous golf awards and honors including last year’s Minnesota Golf Association Player of the Year, Minnesota State Amateur Champion and Minnesota State Match Play Champion. She is a three-time qualifier for the United States Golf Association’s U.S. Amateur Championship.
