The Kimball Fire Department started a new tradition in 2006 – a chief’s award will be presented to one of its members annually. The department is proud to announce its recipient of the 2006 Kimball Fire & Rescue Chief’s Award is John Gohmann. John responded to 22 fire and 78 rescue calls for a total of 100 for 2006. John has been very involved in the department for many years and celebrated 20 years of service in January. In order for a member to qualify for the award they must be in the top 25 percent of the membership in the number of fire and rescue calls made for the year. Many other factors are also included in evaluating who would receive the award, including attendance of fire and rescue trainings, volunteering at fundraisers and community events, being a team player, taking part in extra committees, and taking on extra projects. The department was given an old softball trophy, which was retrofitted into the Chief’s Award. The recipient is determined by the chief and the two assistant chiefs. The department congratulates John on being the first member to receive this award.
