Hello from Hilltop

·

Hello, folks! Well, here’s my newsletter about what’s been happening here at the Hilltop. The weather has been nice, but the wind blows almost every day, drying out the little moisture we have had. Hopefully, we will have some good rain showers this month. The Huberty Band was here on the first Thursday of the month. It happened to be on April Fool’s Day, but there was no fooling around, their music was great. The children’s Easter egg hunt was held the first part of April and it was a huge success. Misty and Friends petting zoo was here as well, and the children sure enjoy petting the animals. The Easter bunny made its appearance and passed out candy. We had our Resident Council meeting with guest speaker nurse Karen Schlangen. She gave an interesting talk on various stomach ailments. Amber Roos was chosen as Super Star of the month. The Intergenerational children brought Easter decorations to hang on our doors, and played relay games with us. Residents sold colored eggs for Easter as a fundraiser. Maynard Nathe cheered us up with his music and singing one afternoon. The St. Anne’s prayer group came to pray and sing hymns together that evening. That guitar music is always enjoyable. Mary Haag and her father came out one evening. Mary played the dulcimer and her dad jammed along with the mouth organ. We hope they come again soon. The Canticle Singers shared beautiful hymns with us one Sunday afternoon. On another day we played Bingo and won plastic Easter eggs. You might be wondering why we would get excited about winning a plastic Easter egg, but what you don’t know is that the eggs had various amounts of money in them. We have a few new residents to welcome to Hilltop. We hope they will feel at home with us. We want to wish everyone who had a birthday in April a very special day. We celebrated with cake and ice cream. Well folks, that about covers it for the month of April – it’s already May. I will leave you with these words from “Ole and Lena.” Ole and Lena went on vacation and stayed at a very nice resort in northern Minnesota. After their three days’ stay was up, Ole went to the cashier’s counter to pay up. “Let’s see,” the man said, “that’s $25 for the room, $25 for golf, $25 for the pool and $25 for the riding stable. That’s $100 a night, making a total of $300.” “Wait yust a minute,” Ole exploded. “Ve didn’t play golf.” “It was there if you wanted it,” the clerk answered. “And ve didn’t use da pool or da riding stable.” “They were both there if you wanted them,” answered the clerk smugly. Ole thought for a minute and reached for his billfold. “All right, he said, “I’ll pay your $100 a night. But I’m going to deduct $75 a night for kissing my wife.” “Hey, wait a minute,” exclaimed the clerk, “I didn’t kiss your wife.” Said Ole with a smug grin, “Vell … she was dere if you vanted it.”
