Hello from Hilltop

·

Hello folks! The ground hog didn’t see his shadow when he stuck his head out of the hole. So he said, “It’s too cold and too much snow out there for me to get any fresh food, so I’ll crawl back and sleep some more!” We did get a lot of snow, but we have had such nice above-zero temps to melt most of it away. We are just getting into March and the state tournaments will soon begin; that’s usually good for a storm or two. The Intergenerational children came from Kimball school to get acquainted with us and visit. We interviewed each other and played bingo. Both the children and residents enjoy bingo. They’re a great bunch of boys and girls. The Huberty Band came to serenade the folks here with their beautiful music and singing. The dancing feet don’t move very fast anymore; it’s much better if we just sit and listen and sing along. A few residents have had birthday parties here put on by their families, so we’ve had a lot of extra visitors here. We all enjoy that. Maynard Nathe and his dancing buddy Roger Buttons came one day with some music. Roger dances with some folks who love to dance. We all enjoy that. On the second Tuesday of each month we look forward to the St. Anne’s Prayer Group. They come to play and sing hymns with us. Later they pray with each one individually if there is something they need prayers for. As we all know, praying is good for everyone. We had a Valentine’s Day party, and Norb Koshiol helped liven us up with some good music and singing. Before February ended, the Intergenerational children from Kimball school came and helped each resident make wind socks to be hung in the lunch room and activity room. Oh, what beautiful work those children did with some help from the residents. We had the birthday party of the month for all the folks who celebrated their day in February. Cake, ice cream and beverage was served to all. We all received ashes on Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season. Now that Lent has begun, we will have Stations of the Cross each Friday after our devotion and communion. We will have them every Friday until Lent is over. We had the IMPACT kids come; they made decorated hearts to hang on our doors. Very neat work! They also came another day, so we played “Wheel of Fortune.” It was a lot of fun. When any group of children come here to spend time with us, we always treat them to cookies and juice. Children like their cookies and juice as well as the adults. Whee, spring is around the corner, so stay well and enjoy the month of March. Ole and Lena have one: Ole and Lena took a trip to Las Vegas for a weekend vacation. While strolling down the Vegas strip, a somewhat shabby man walked up to Ole and asked if he would contribute a few dollars so he could get his wife something to eat. Ole was somewhat dubious. He told the man, “Vell, if I give you some money, I’ll bet you’ll use it for gambling.” “Oh, no,” said the beggar, “I’ve already got enough gambling money.”
