Hi, folks, here I am again to let you know what has been going on here at Hilltop. The weather has been super-good and we have been taking advantage of it and getting out to enjoy the warm sunshine. Our gardens are doing well; we water them when it doesn’t rain. We also enjoyed a couple of picnics and the weather was beautiful. The Huberty band came to entertain the first Thursday of the month and we all enjoyed that. It’s such good music that it brings out a lot of folks and the songs stay in our heads as we fall off to sleep. When the Minnesota Twins are playing you can find a lot of the residents in front of the television watching the game and cheering them on. The activity staff always posts game times on the daily board so we don’t miss a thing. We had our Resident Council meeting and voted the Butterfass twins, Jamie and Jyme as the Hilltop Superstars of the month. They are very good nursing assistants. We enjoyed a trip to the Landwehr dairy farm and saw their huge herd of cows. We learned a lot from Dennis and Marlene as they gave us a tour through the facilities. We watched as the hired help milked some of the cows. We ended the tour in the milking parlor and enjoyed some refreshing cold milk and Marlene’s wonderful homemade cookies. It was a great trip and we want to thank them. The summer Impact group came and visited with us and made some cute decorations for our bedroom doors. One afternoon Larry Madden and Marlene Ruprecht came to entertain us with their singing and playing, very good music for everyone to enjoy. We were happy to have them come to Hilltop. Maynard Nathe came and his buddy Roger came to play and do some dancing with us. We celebrated birthdays for July and played Bingo. Our “Lunch Bunch” went out to the Family Inn for lunch where we got to pick whatever meal we wanted. Our food here at Hilltop is good, but it’s always fun to go out and experience someone else’s cooking. St. Anne’s prayer group came to sing and pray with us. They always give cards to those with birthdays. Well, August is just around the corner, so I better say goodbye and leave you with a word from Ole and Lena. “Ole chopped wood for five hours for the Lutheran preacher. When he finished, he rang the doorbell at the parsonage so he could be paid. The preacher, seeking a bit of sympathy said, ‘I hope you don’t charge a lot, Ole … you see, I am just a poor preacher.’ ‘Yah, I know,’ said Ole, ‘I’ve heard you preach.’”
