Herbert W. Marohn of South Haven died on Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 93 years old.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball with Rev. Dave Milz officiating. Burial followed in Kimball Cemetery. Friends called from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. A prayer service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel in Kimball.
Herbert W. Marohn was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Albion Township in Wright County to Herman and Emma (Uecker) Marohn. He grew up in Middleville Township, and attended Middleville Christian School.
In his youth, Herb played the drums in a traveling band; at one of the dances he met Theresa. He married Theresa M. Geisinger on Aug. 7, 1932, in Middleville Township in Wright County.
Professionally, Marohn was a butter maker, first working in Blooming Prairie. He managed a creamery in Lester Prairie, then built a dairy bottling plant in Hector. He later moved to South Haven, where he farmed and had a mink ranch. He managed the Silver Lake Creamery, the St. Cloud bottling plant, the Kimball Creamery, the milk drying plant in Paynesville, the Sauk Rapids Creamery, and then worked for Mid-America Dairy.
He was a dedicated businessman who considered no challenge too difficult to tackle. He played as hard as he worked. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, still deer hunting at age 90. He also loved sports.
During his long life he held many positions in the church. In recent years he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Marohn was blessed with a strong faith and a loving family. He read the Bible daily, and cared deeply for every child in his family; he loved to be surrounded by his “kids”. He often remarked about his good fortune in marriage, family and faith.
Marohn was preceded in death by an infant son Donald; three brothers: Alfred, Walter and Herman; and a sister Esther Linkert.
He is survived by his wife Theresa of South Haven; children: Mary Lou (and Dick) Carlson of Kerkhoven, Deanna (and John) Bendix of Waseca, Dale (and Carol) Marohn of South Haven, Kathy (and Bill) Brown of Shoreview; brother Reuben (and Arlene) of Pequot Lakes; sisters Selma Metcalf of San Diego, Calif,; Mildred O’Toole of Chicago, Ill.; and Alma Marohn of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Marohn Bendix; Benjamin, Nicholas and William Herbert Brown; Craig Carlson and Darin Marohn. Honorary pallbearers were Dan and Barry Carlson, Michael and Ronald Nelson, Paul Werner and Corey Youngberg. Organist Ruth Fry provided the music.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
