Herbert Schabel of Luxemburg died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at the Quiet Oaks Hospice surrounded by his family. He was 84.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at St. Wendelin’s Catholic Church in Luxemburg, with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Mary Hall in Luxemburg. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mary Hall. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.

Herb was born Jan. 12, 1925, in St. Cloud to Oswald and Frances (Kruchten) Schabel. He married Lorraine Borman Nov. 24, 1962, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kimball. Herb owned and operated both Schabel Trucking and Schabel Beverage throughout his working life. He was a member of St. Wendelin’s Catholic Church, the Waite Park Silver Star Post #428, Eagles Aerie #622, and the Moose Lodge #1400.

He enjoyed taking trips in his motor home, spending time at the lake home, and going to the casino. He especially liked doing these activities with his wife, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Ralph who died in 1963.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Lorraine of Luxemburg; sisters Florence Warnert of St. Cloud, Mildred Pelzer of St. Cloud, Laverne (and Bob) Winter of Luxemburg, Delores (and Denny) Johannes of St. Cloud, Idella Schneider of Avon, and Marilyn Ranelle of Elk River.
