Herbert “Herb” White of Litchfield died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. He was 86. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Litchfield with Father Mark Mallak officiating. Visitation was Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield followed by a prayer service at 5 p.m., and visitation continued Monday morning at the funeral home prior to the service at the church. Burial followed in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Kimball. Herbert George White was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Clear Lake, Minn., to Wilbur and Kittie Belle (Cambell) White. He married Ardis Speckel June 19, 1943, later divorced, and married Roxann Kisor April 26, 1979, in Watertown, S.D. Herbert graduated from Becker High School in 1936 where he was active in track and basketball. He attended the University of Minnesota. Following school, he worked for First District as a milk tester, and was an ag class teacher in Kimball. He began selling insurance in 1951 and was continually licensed for 53 years. From 1968 to 1972, Herb served as coordinator of the Meeker/Wright County Community Action Agency programs. Herb is a direct descendent of James White who fought at the Battle of Saratoga in the Revolutionary War. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and is a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church. Herb had a hobby farm from 1952 to 1974. During that time he enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, and raising farm animals of different kinds. He enjoyed walking through the woods while smoking his pipe. Herb also enjoyed horseshoes, music and sports of all kinds, and later in life Internet surfing. Folks who knew Herb knew they couldn’t out-talk him. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Helen, sisters Mildred Grinnell and Florence Johnson, brothers Wesley and Lawrence White, and infant daughter Helen. He is survived by wife Roxann of Litchfield; daughters Nita Davis of Mesquite, Texas, Karen (and Harry) Marsh of Watkins, Althea (and Al) Heim of Sartell; sons Monte (and Jana) White of Cottage Grove, Paul (and Pam) White of Litchfield, Barry (and Jill) White of Litchfield, Jason White of Litchfield, Dereck White of Brainerd, Dustin White of Litchfield, and Joshua White of Litchfield; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mildred White of St. Cloud; and special niece Susan Hammock.
