HIGHWAY 23/DIVISION STREET FROM WASHINGTON MEMORIAL DRIVE TO 4th AVENUE:
Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud will continue using the new westbound lanes throughout the entire length of the project. 5th, 7th, 14th and Washington Memorial Drive intersections are now all open and operating on signal systems. 6th Ave is open with stop signs and 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th are open on the north side of Highway 23/Division Street. All intersections will require temporary closures for the final concrete median and paving in later stages of the project. An additional lane switch has been added in the westbound lane over the new Lake George bridge to allow for granite veneer installation.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street and St. Germain. A traffic switch from the southbound lanes onto the newly constructed northbound lanes of 9th Ave is scheduled for September 8th or 9th.
Half of the planned slope paving has been completed along the northbound 9th Avenue lanes under the new Lake George bridge site, with the remaining slope paving to be completed within the next week.
The eastbound portion of the Lake George bridge deck has been poured.
Street light pole installation will continue next week. Light pole foundations will be installed along 9th/10th ave continues this week.
Bituminous milling on the southbound 9th/10th Ave lanes is scheduled to begin next week.
Concrete sidewalk work at various locations around the project continues this week.
Grading work continues on the eastbound lanes between 12th Avenue and the bridge site.
The Highway 23 project, including the Lake George bridge, is still on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.
HIGHWAY 23/MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE:
Note: Highway 23 is closed at 5th Avenue for the construction of Highway 23 from west of 4th Avenue to the Mississippi River bridge and the 4th Avenue intersection.
Traffic is being detoured using 5th Avenue and 1st Street South back to 4th Avenue. This detour will be in place until the end next week, weather permitting.
Crews are forming, placing reinforcement bars and pouring railings, sidewalk and median island on the bridge.
Bridge deck wearing course overlay is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 8 for the next two weeks.
Crews will pour new curb and gutter on 4th Avenue and Highway 23 west of the bridge and sidewalk east of the bridge to Wilson Avenue this week.
Crews are placing Class 6 and paving the first two layers of bituminous west of the bridge and on the 4th Avenue intersection on September 9/10, as well as behind curbs, gutters in preparation for sidewalks.
Installation of lighting on the bridge continues.
Granite veneer installation for bridge rail will continue through October.
Bridge approach panels were poured.
The project is on schedule for completion in early November.
