Highway 55 single lane traffic in Rockford begins April 24

·

Motorists will encounter delays on both directions of Highway 55 in Rockford between Ash Street and Hennepin County Road 92 (Dogwood Street) as single lane traffic begins Tuesday, April 24.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions through the end of May. Access is available onto all cross streets and to all local businesses. A temporary traffic signal is in place at Highway 55 and Rebecca Park Trail to help safely direct traffic.

Once the first phase of construction is completed, full closures of Highway 55 will be in place from early June until early September. Updates will be made in advance of each phase and closure.

Local wildlife

Many motorists who drive along Highway 55 in Medina have likely had the opportunity to see a bald eagle’s nest on the north side of the roadway. MnDOT and the Highway 55 project team are committed to the preservation of this proud national symbol, and will be taking proactive steps to ensure minimal disruption to its nest during construction, such as not parking equipment or materials within 330 feet of it.

The Highway 55 design-build resurfacing project is located in Hennepin and Wright counties between Ash Street in Rockford and just west of Pinto Drive in Medina. Work includes resurfacing Highway 55 to preserve the lifespan of the roadway and create a smoother drive for motorists, adding turn lanes at various intersections to enhance safety, repairing curb and gutters and drainage structures, and updating accessibility for pedestrians. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
