History group to meet monthly at Stearns History Museum

St. Paul educator, speaker kicks off 2018-19 Civil War Roundtable season

Dave Page, a writer and educator from St. Paul, will kick off the 2018-19 season of the Central Minnesota Civil War Roundtable with “Florida and the Civil War” at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Stearns History Museum.

The Central Minnesota Civil War Roundtable formed in 2007 to increase and share historical understanding. Monthly meetings of the group during the school year feature speakers and a question and answer session. Other scheduled speakers include:

• Darryl Sannes, “The Plummer Boys: Five Brothers in the Civil War,” Oct. 9

• Christopher Lehmen, “Slavery in the Upper Mississippi Valley,” Nov. 13

• Rob Mann, “Detecting the 1862 U.S. Military Post at Sauk Centre,” Jan. 8

• John Cox, “Culp’s Hill at Gettysburg,” Feb. 12

• Adam Katz, “Baseball and the Civil War,” March 12

• Joe Fitzharris, “The 3rd Minnesota,” April 9

• George Romano, “Pook Turtle: The Mississippi River Squadron Campaign,” May 14

Central Minnesota Civil War members also enjoy occasional field trips to local historical sights. Membership to the group is $40 for individuals and $50 for couples. One does not need to be a member to attend the presentations.
