The National Weather Service says 1-3 inches of snow was common from the late winter/early spring storm system late Friday into Saturday. A few spots picked up more than 5 inches.
Hackensack received the most with 7.8 inches of snow Saturday. Backus was close behind with 7 inches, followed by Naytahwaush and Park Rapids with 6 inches, Long Prairie 5.4 inches, Federal Dam and Wadena with 5 inches, Bemidji 4.5 inches, Elbow Lake 3 inches, and Alexandria 2.5 inches.
Another winter storm is set to hit Minnesota Tuesday night into Wednesday. At this stage, it looks like southern Minnesota will take the brunt of this storm coming out of Colorado. Snowfall totals of more than 6 inches will be possible in some locations to our south.
After that system, a more zonal flow will set up briefly, followed by a northwest flow. The northwest flow will bring chances of a rain/snow mix to Minnesota Friday night into Saturday, and again Sunday. Some freezing rain can’t be ruled out, particularly Sunday.
In case you are wondering, spring officially arrives this Thursday at 4:01 a.m. our time as the vernal equinox takes place. You can be proud to say that you made it through another winter.
Weather facts: With the vernal equinox taking place this week, vernal means “new” or “fresh,” while equinox comes from Latin meaning “equal.”
