I-29 Moo University Winter Workshop Series will focus on milk quality

University of Minnesota Extension as part of the I-29 Moo University, will host our annual Winter Workshop Series from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the SDSU Cow-Calf Education and Research Facility at 2901 Western Ave., Brookings, S.D., and Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Forster Community Center at 404 First Avenue, Rock Rapids, Iowa.
“This workshop series will highlight a number of experts who will discuss new strategies and ideas to help dairy producers improve and manage milk quality” explained Jim Salfer, University of Minnesota Extension.
Erin Royster, University of Minnesota Professor, will discuss new trends in mastitis organisms and strategies for control, and also strategies for selective dry-off treatments. Tom Berry, Vice President of Quality Assurance, Associated Milk Producers Inc., will highlight the milk quality measures that are important to processors and their customers. Jennifer Bentley, ISU Extension Field specialist will discuss how to conduct a successful milker training program. Troubleshooting mastitis in your herd will be covered by Derek Nolan, University of Illinois. There will also be a panel of dairy producers discussing their keys to achieving high milk quality that will be moderated by Helen Korzec, owner of Korzec Dairy Optimization, LLC.
