Jean (Stang) Malone, 38

Jean Malone of Erie, Colo., formerly of Long Prairie and St. Nicholas, Minn., died March 19, 2004, at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo. She was 38. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, Minn., with Fr. Mark Stang, Fr. Greg Mastey and Fr. Mark Innocenti officiating. A service was also held March 23 at Boulder Valley Christian Church in Colorado with Steve Stang, Fr. Mark Stang, Michael Stang, Jeff Stang, James Malone and Jeff Doktor serving as casket bearers. Jean was born April 28, 1965, in St. Cloud to Andrew J. and Edith K. (Winkleman) Stang. She grew up on the family farm in St. Nicholas and graduated from Kimball Area High School. She went on to earn a degree in education from St. Cloud State University while playing for the university softball team. She taught elementary school in many parts of the country including Browerville and Long Prairie in Minnesota, Lumberton, N.M., and Sacred Heart of Jesus School and Boulder Country Day School, both in Boulder, Colo. Jean married Kenneth J. Malone Aug. 7, 1999, in Boulder, Colo. She was an active member of Boulder Valley Christian Church in Boulder. She loved all sports and was very athletic, playing softball and volleyball. She also enjoyed reading, her family and friends. Jean is survived by her husband Kenneth J. Malone and two children, Kerry and Michael, of Erie, Colo.; her parents Andrew and Edith Stang of Richmond; sisters and brothers Karen (and Dennis) Rausch of Watkins, Marlene (and Dave) Molitor of Cold Spring, Lori (and Jamie) Hiemer of Erie, Colo., Stacie Stang of Erie, Colo., Sr. Perpetua Stang of St. Cecelia Convent in Nashville, Tenn., Steve (and Sandy) Stang of Watkins, Mike (and Minda) Stang of Elliscottville, N.Y., Fr. Mark Stang of St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel in Long Prairie, and Jeff (and Jamie) Stang of State College, Penn.; 20 nieces and nephews, a great-niece and great-nephew.
