Joan Dickie, 81

Joan Dickie of Garrison, Minn., died peacefully Sunday evening, Jan. 16, 2022, with her husband and daughter at her side. She was 81.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the First Baptist Church in Baxter, Minn. It will be live-streamed on the church website. Family and friends are invited to get together one hour prior to the service.
Joan Fay Egan was born March 26, 1940, in the city of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada, to Tom and Elsie Egan. She graduated from Portage la Prairie High School, and went on to the Manitoba School of Nursing receiving her degree and becoming a registered psychiatric nurse. After graduation, Joan moved to Minneapolis to attend the Minnesota Bible College. She was the school nurse, and she also received a two-year degree in Bible studies. Joan met her future husband Ross C. Dickie in 1961 while he was attending the University of Minnesota, and she was at the Bible college. They were married in 1963 at the Church of Christ in Portage la Prairie.
Joan worked as a nurse at the University of Minnesota Hospital from 1963-1970. In 1970, she and Ross moved to Kimball where they lived for 44 years. Joan continued a long career of nursing, working at Buffalo Hospital, Madden Kimball Home, and REM home health services. Joan thoroughly enjoyed nursing and caring for people with a variety of illnesses. She always put everyone she touched in her life “first.”
Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Ross; children Tim (and Tanya) Dickie, and Shannon (and Scott) Rivers; brother Wayne (and Janet) Egan; and seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the American Cancer Society.
