Johnson Kelly Post 483 American Legion update
The Johnson Kelly American Legion Post 483 and auxiliary members met for their annual membership meeting at the Kingston Community Center Tuesday, Aug. 26. All members enjoyed a pork supper prepared by the post members. The auxiliary furnished cakes for dessert and served at the meal. The committee in charge of this consisted of Pearl Haapajoki, Judy Compton, Marie Wylie and Darcy Chapman. Post and auxiliary members held separate meetings following the supper. The auxiliary business meeting was called to order by President Sandi Smith. Prayers were led by Chaplain Pearl Happajoki. The Pledge of Allegiance and preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary was recited, and the “Star Spangled Banner” was sung. Roll call and minutes from the last meeting were read by Secretary Judy Compton, and a treasury report was given by Mary Jane Arens. Reports were given by volunteers to the Veterans Hospital Medical Center in St. Cloud and other business was discussed. Veterans Medical Center The Festival of Nations took place outside the St. Cloud Veterans Medical Center Thursday, Aug. 14. Dorothy Jensen and Ann Hamilton assisted veterans in wheelchairs who attended the event. The festival included booths from different countries serving ethnic foods as well as music and entertainment. The veterans enjoyed the outdoor activities. New officers Officers of the Kingston Johnson Kelly Post 483 American Legion are listed below. Commander Philip Rokala, Vice-Commander Gary Mansicka, Secretary and Adjutant Paul Herner, Chaplain Gary Mansicka, and Treasurer Ted Root.
