June Kimball Lions update

June Kimball Lions update

Hello, Kimball community!

Kimball Lions met at the Willow Creek Shelter for our May meeting. Dinner was at 6:30 p.m. and our meeting began promptly at 7 p.m., striving to keep our meetings only until 8 p.m. with President Brian presiding.

We lost another charter member in April, Carl Hoffman, another member who started our club. Carl will be greatly missed by us all. Our sympathies to Irene and his family.

Motions for donations at our May meeting went to School of Fish (an elementary-age lesson on fishing), and Kimball Vex IQ Robotics for Worlds competition at the end of May to help them cover their costs. Congratulations, IQ Robotics Team! Also, costs for Kimball signs for flowers entering into Kimball and at the shelter. All motions were approved.

The Lions began a recycle project with the Kimball community and Trex Recyling May 17. Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, Ziploc and other re-sealable bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags, shrink wrap, e-mailer envelopes, etc. All materials must be clean, dry, and free of food residue. Start saving your plastic now. Drop off location boxes are at A.M. Maus, Tri-County News, and Knaus Sausage House. Wow! As of this date June 7, we have collected 53.9 pounds. Thank you, community.

Our annual Lions Golf Tournament was May 22 with 4-person teams, 29 teams with 116 golfers. We served dinner at the shelter for the golfers, and had our raffle drawings there. Team Jeff Haugen came in first, Team Orbeck #2 came in second, Team Knaus came in third. Raffle winners were $500 to Brian Kuechle, $100 Dan Ashfeld, $100 Ed Stein, $50 Morgan Larson, $50 Doug Knaus, $50 Jack Kuechle, and $50 Ed Stein. A huge “thank you” to Brian and his crew for getting through this huge fundraiser.

Our 13th annual Breakfast on the Farm was held June 5 at the Kerfeld Hill-View Farm near -Melrose. This was a bit different than other years as it was a breakfast to-go, but Stearns County Dairy Assoc. had it all figured out, and it went very smoothly. Our appreciation to them for allowing us to serve their breakfast, it was a real honor, so thank you Stearns County Dairy Assoc.

The Lions’ new year starts July 1, new officers will be placed at the July 19 meeting. Consider joining our club, we would be delighted to have you join.

Kimball Days 5K will again be Saturday morning, along with the parade; details coming soon. Our annual breakfast is on Sunday morning. Come, enjoy breakfast all made for you.
