Winsted KAHS junior high volleyball teams traveled to Winsted Thursday, Sept. 18, to compete against the Holy Trinity Trojans. The young Cubs used their 6-2 offense and were successful in many areas. The Cubs once again set several goals and met more than half of them. The team wanted to serve at least 50 percent and made 26 of 41 for a 63 percent average. Another goal was to create five set attempts; the team exceeded the goal by two. The girls also wanted to have at least two hits per set. In this area they were successful six times. Things are really starting to come together; the girls had set a goal to have eight dropped balls or less and they only dropped two total. The Cubs will continue to work on calling the ball and getting more wins. Game scores for the night were 25-22 and 26-24 with the win going to the Trojans. Maple Lake Kimball traveled to Maple Lake for their second match of the season and came away with a two-game victory Saturday, Sept. 20. The young Cubs focused and worked hard at playing as team with their new offense and demonstrated many awesome skills. Serving continues to improve as well as setting and hitting. Our goals this match included things like not allowing more than 8 dropped balls, we allowed 9. Again, we tried to serve 65 percent, however were were successful with 53 of our 90 for 58 percent. We are almost there. We surpassed our ace serves by five. Our goal was 10 and we had 15 services aces. We were successful with one set attempt that turned into a kill. However, we wanted five, but we will start with one. The team’s final goal was again to win one game in the match, and we won two. Game scores were 20-25; 20-25; 25-21 and 25-19. Great job in these games, Cubs.
