Intense Matches lead to 2-0 week for junior varsity volleyball
The junior varsity volleyball team is now 6-2 overall as well as 2-1 in conference play after an exciting week of three-set matches.
The Cubs opened the week of Sept. 17, with a Monday night match against Norwood-Young America. The Cubs started strong, winning set one 25-21. In set two, the Cubs faltered, making critical errors at key moments to lose 23-25. However, the Cubs wasted no time in set three, dominating with a power offense and effective serving. Final set score was 15-7 in favor of the Cubs.
In the second match of the week, the Cubs faced the Pierz Pioneers at the Wirth Gym Thursday, Sept. 20. The Cubs started too slowly, making key service and attack errors. Set one went to the Pioneers, 17-25. The Cubs bounced back in set two, utilizing a right side attack and precision passing to win 25-17. The third set went back and forth between the two teams, but the Cubs took the lead at 12-11 and never looked back. Final score in set three was 15-12.
The Cubs continue to defend the home court with a Sept. 25, match against Annandale, and Sept. 27, match versus the Maple Lake Irish. Saturday, Sept. 29, the Cubs travel to Dassel-Cokato for an eight-team tournament.
