On Monday, Feb. 19, Kimball traveled to the biggest stage in Minnesota to face Elmore Academy at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The young Cubs were fired up from the start as they jumped out to a commanding lead turning steals into fast break opportunities. By halftime, Kimball held a 23-10 halftime advantage and by the end of the contest Kimball had closed out a 40-29 victory. Kimball introduced an expanded B-Squad team as the entire C-Squad also played in this matchup where everyone played well. Kimball was led in scoring by Bobby Arens and Jared Mackereth with eight points each, followed by Sam Scheeler with six, Eric Nystrom five, Stephan Kurkosky four, Andy Dingmann three, Alex Fischer two, Travis Erickson two, and Danny Jenson two. Others contributing to the win with great defense, but were unable to get in the scoring column, were Allan Mancini, Jonathon Gilpatrick, Pat Libbesmeier, Alex Mies, Cody Erickson, Jade Hamilton, Joey Robertson, and Ryan Young. On Thursday, Feb. 22, Kimball’s road trip took them to Pierz to take on a very talented Pioneers team. Kimball found themsleves down early but fought back to tie the game 13-13 but then Pierz ended the half on a 16-0 run to take a 29-13 halftime advantage. In the second half, the Cubs did not have the answers for the much taller and deeper bench that the Pierz team had as they downed the Cubs 59-29 by the final buzzer. Kimball was led by Scheeler with 12 points, Nystrom five, Libbesmeier three, Gilpatrick three, while Dingmann, Arens, and Erickson each scored two points to round out the scoring. The Boys B-squad records moves to 7-13 on the season after this week’s play.
