KAHS Awards Day

Friday, May 24, was Awards Day at Kimball Area High School. Students were recognized with awards, scholarships, certificates and medals for their outstanding achievements and promise of future accomplishments.

The Louis Roberg Trust awarded $1,000 to Rebecca Lahr and Elissa Ecker; and $500 to John Condon.

The L.H. Arvig Memorial Scholarship was given to Rebecca Lahr.

Band Camp Scholarships were awarded to Andy Diffley and Dan Stein.

Thirty-six KAHS band students participated in 15 events at the Region/State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Eight events received a Superior rating (highest possible). Christy Pladson’s clarinet solo and the Brass Choir (Nick Stein, Erin Heath, Jill Libbesmeier, Jon Miller, Craig Henneman, Dan Gohman, Chris Rose, Eric Schmitt, Sarah Gohman, Kyle Wurm, Travis Winkelman, Jackie Miller, Samantha Bowman, Al Holker, Chris Gregory, Mitch Nystrom and Tim Fuller) were chosen “Best In Site” which is a great honor. The Kimball Bands also thank Lori Miller for her outstanding work as accompanist ,and for her never-ending support of the Kimball Band program.

Jazz State Superior Trophy and Outstanding Soloist Certificates went to Jackie Miller and Cole Loewen.

The Director’s awards were given to Heather Nystrom and Jackie Miller.

The John Philip Sousa Award, which goes to an outstanding senior band member elected by the Band, was given to Christine Pladson.

In the vocal music category, Certificates for Solo and Ensemble Contest were presented to Kadin Rose and Kendra Vigoren. A Participation Award went to Rhiannon VanVleet.

Several Independent Scholarships were presented to students.

Sara Donnay received $500 Watkins Lions and $1,000 St. Cloud State Foundation Scholarship.

Peggy VanNurden received $8,000 St. Scholastica Foundation Benedictine Scholarship and $600 St. Scholastica Alumni Referral Scholarship.

Heather Nystrom received $9,500 Augsburg Regents Scholarship, $2,000 Augsburg Peace Scholarship and $2,500 Vallely Will Fund Scholarship.

Kim Saukkola received $1,000 St. Cloud State University Achievement Scholarship, $2,000 St. Cloud State Dean’s Academic Distinction Scholarship and $1,700 Nash Finch Scholarship.

Jackie Miller was presented with $1,500 Trinity Faculty Honors Scholarship and $500 Trinity Leadership Scholarship.

Krysta Arnold received $3,500 College of St. Benedict’s Dean’s Scholarship.

Chris Gregory won a yearly $7,500 St. John’s University President’s Scholarship and $500 Catholic Aid Association Scholarship.

Christine Pladson received the College of St. Benedict’s Honorary President’s Scholarship, amounting to $18,916 each year.

Rachel Rosha received $6,000 St. Cloud State University Premiere Foundation Scholarship and $800 Coborn’s Endowed Scholarship.

Kim Mackereth received $500 SCTC George and Shirley Torrey Scholarship.

Tracy Tenney received $500 SCTC Robert and Sandy Sexton Scholarship.

Heather Landwehr received $250 U.S. Bank Award.

Melanie Boeson received $250 Fair Haven Lions Scholarship and $400 Eagles Scholarship.

The following students received monetary awards from the Kimball Chapter Dollars for Scholars. Kelly Schiefelbein, Amber Markwardt and Rebecca Lahr received $500 from Dollars for Scholars. Brenda Dahnke received $200 from Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Michael J. Massmann received $500 from J-Craft. David Schneider and Chris Gregory received $500 from Wrestling Booster Club. Jennifer Hokkala received $500 from Kingston Lions. Kassandra Hinze, Krysta Arnold, Sara Donnay and Jackie Miller received $500 from Kimball Lions. Eric Schmitt and Dennis Beck received $500 from Kimball Fire Dept. Natasha Hays received $500 from South Haven Fire Dept. Melanie Boeson received $600 from Dave Hendricks Memorial. John P. Condon received $500 from Paul Gregory Memorial. Kim Mackereth and Tracy Tenney received $500 from Sandie Bennetts Memorial. Kim Saukkola and Anne L. Roos received $500 from Angela Sandal Memorial. Kim Moser received $600 Kenneth Helling Memorial. Brenda Dahnke received $500 Meeker County Co-op award. Peggy VanNurden received $500 from Stearns County Electric. Elissa Ecker received $500 from Jake Klein Memorial. Amanda Konz received $500 from J.R. Kommunity Care. Christine Pladson, Olivia Carlson, Heather Nystrom and Rachel Rosha received $1,000 from Dollars for Scholars.

Seniors receiving the Presidential Academic Excellence Awards were Rebecca Lahr, Heather Nystrom, Christine Pladson, Olivia Carlson, Brandy Stuve Jackie Miller and Peggy VanNurden.

Seniors receiving the Presidential Academic Achievement Awards went to Krysta Arnold, Sara Donnay, Chris Gregory, Rachel Rosha, Kassi Hinze and Tim Fuller.

Presidential Academic Excellence Awards for Eighth Grade went to Vanessa Gillman, Mandy Libbesmeier, Daniel Stein, Harrison Hancock, Melanie Massmann, Katheryn Krantz, Amanda Schiefelbein, Alison Rosha, Jessie Fischer, Nicole Konz, Rayell Berscheid, Kari Mackereth, Jami Weigelt, Andrew Diffley, Lisa Stein, Heather Brinkman and Matt Mayala.

Student Government Certificates were presented to David Schneider, Jackie Miller, Olivia Carlson, Amanda Hentges, Angie Hemminger, Nicole Finifrock, Brianna Libbesmeier, Jill Libbesmeier, Zach Mackereth, Alison Ecker, Amelia Hentges, Jodine Lemke, Cassie Nelson, Kevin Sommers, Mandy Libbesmeier, Jason Tenney, Logan Bever, Megan Kammermeier.

Student Government Scho-larships were awarded to David Schneider, Jackie Miller and Olivia Carlson.

Junior High Knowledge Bowl awards were given to Kelsey Hanson, John Janisch, Josh Smith, Dustin Orbeck, Mara Rippentrop, Anthony Truman, Brandon Stein and Dan Stein.

Senior High Knowledge Bowl awards went to Melanie Boeson, Heather Nystrom, Christine Pladson, Anne Roos, Kim Saukkola, Cole Loewen, Carl Stein, Nick Stein, McCade Libby, Frank Hancock and Nick Doering.

The Jim Asfeld Award went to Heather Nystrom.

Chris Gregory and Becky Lahr received the two $400 FFA Scholarships

Chris Hunt received the Xerox Award.

Two Language Awards were presented. Erin Heath received the award for Outstanding German 1 and Brittani Jonas received for Outstanding German 2.

A gift of a sweatshirt was presented to the foreign exchange student, Maiju Saares.

Christine Pladson received an award for Carnelian Editor and Elissa Ecker received an award for Creative Achievement.

Letters were presented for Visual Arts to Nathan Chapp, Michael Roman, Andy Knaus, Kelly Schiefelbein, Kim Saukkola, Brandon Looman, Sara Donnay, Elissa Ecker, Luke Becker, Sarah Walker, Liz Dwyer, holly Froehling, Jenna Stenger, Randy Saukkola, Jamie Hanson and Alison Ecker.

The ECSU Students of Excellence awards were presented to Olivia Carlson, Rachel Rosha, Heather Nystrom and Christine Pladson.

National Science Olympiad Awards went to seventh-graders Brad Schindele, John Janisch, Morgan McKee, Megan Wills, Cole Wittenberg, Katie Lochen, Steven Winkelman, Kristin Eisenreich, Felicia Menson, Matthew Dingmann and Patrick Hancock.
