The Kimball Senior High Band was represented at the Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest on Monday, March 8, by 43 students competing in 23 events. The students came home with 17 State Superior ratings (the highest rating possible), five State Excellent ratings, and one sub-section Superior rating. In addition, two events tied with each other for “Best in Site” awards with scores of 40 out of 40 possible points-a perfect score! The following is a list of specific groups: State Superior: Jenna Stenger, Melanie Marquardt, and Andrea Miller – woodwind trio; Jenna Stenger – flute solo; Erin Heath – trumpet solo; Jill Libbesmeier – trumpet solo; Jenna Stenger and Cathy Thompson – flute duet; Melanie Maquardt – clarinet solo; Jodine Lemke – oboe solo; Cole Loewen, Jordan Miller, Jenna Brand, Mandy Libbesmeier, and Angela Garding – percussion ensemble; Erin Heath, Jill Lib besmeier and John Hanley – trumpet trio; Andrea Miller – alto sax solo; Erin Heath, Jill Libbesmeier, Nick Stein, Aaron Lahr, Robbie Dammann, Nick Donabauer, Sarah Gohman, Amanda Schiefelbein, John Hanley, Krystal Mackereth, Nic ole Konz, Megan Wills, Dan Stein, Al Holker, Jeff Hunt, Kristin Eisenreich, Mitch Nystrom, Jeff Miller, Jesse Frisch mann, Brandon Stien and Joelle Wysoski – brass choir; Ryan Win k elman – bass clarinet solo; Carl Stein, Andrea Miller, Josh Orn and Erich Deutsch – sax quartet; Jenna Stenger, Cathy Thompson, Maren Kolb and Janelle Kuechle – flute quartet; Dan Stein, Al Holker, Mitch Nystrom and Jeff Hunt – low brass quartet; Melanie Maquardt, Alison Ecker, Tabitha Maus, Lindsey Ostby and Ryan Winkelman – clarinet quintet; Jenna Stenger and Brianna Libbesmeier – flute duet. State Excellent: Angela Garding – xylophone solo; Mitch Nystrom – baritone solo; Brianna Libbesmeier and Jodine Lemke – flute/oboe duet; Carl Stein, Nick Stein, Josh Orn, Erich Deutsch, Dan Stein, Cole Loewen, Angela Garding and Jackie Messer – jazz combo; Mitch Nystrom, Jeff Miller and Kevin Sommers – baritone trio. Sub-section Superior: Jesse Frischmann and Joelle Wysoski – tuba duet. Best in Site: A tie between the clarinet quintet (Melanie Marquardt, Alison Ecker, Tabitha Maus, Lindsey Ostby and Ryan Winkelman) and the flute duet (Jenna Stenger and Brianna Libbesmeier). Both groups had a perfect score of 40! Congratulations to all of these fine musicians for their success at the contest and for the way they conducted themselves in a responsible and professional manner as individuals. Also a huge thank you to Lori Miller who served as the accompianist for our soloists. She did a fantastic job, gave of her time over the past several weeks and provided a great deal of support to the Kimball band students. We can’t thank her enough.
