KAHS, BestPrep stock market game

·

Students from Kimball Area High School joined BestPrep and more than 4,250 students in 100 Minnesota schools to compete in the Stock Market Game (SMG) this fall. KAHS teacher Nathan Hylla advises 18 SMG teams as part of his economics curriculum. Hylla’s students at KAHS have teamed up with BestPrep to support the economic education and financial knowledge of local students by participating in the SMG program. BestPrep administers the program for students within the state to enhance financial literacy. Student teams that participate in the Stock Market Game are given $100,000 to “invest” over a 14-week period. Each team receives daily portfolio updates on its current holdings, brokerage fees, interest and team rankings. During that time, teachers incorporate the game’s supporting materials into their curriculum. The SMG, administered locally by BestPrep and nationally by Securities Industries Association, is supported in Minnesota by individuals, businesses and financial institutions.
