Mrs. Lowe’s Earth Science students are currently applying their textbook knowledge to a hands-on activity as they create model volcanoes and informational displays. The students were given a list of questions and volcanic features to research to complete their projects. Dani Haag particularly enjoyed the project. “You get a chance to learn some amazing stuff,” Haag said. Haag’s classmate John Hughes said, “I like this project because you could build a volcano how you want as long as you follow the directions.” Jacob Kieke added, “I like building the volcanoes; it is better than writing on a worksheet.” Sarah Arnhold liked the project because, “You get to do a hands-on activity by creating a volcano.” Not only do students have fun working on the project, but they come away from it with knowledge of how volcanoes work. Students are given the opportunity to apply reading and research skills to produce a creative model and display. The students’ work is now on display in the high school. Everyone is invited to stop in an view the displays. Check in at the high school office for directions.
